AIDA meeting 10/02: debates with French Presidency, compromise amendments to draft report

The draft report and amendments will be put to a vote in committee on the 22 March 2022, followed by a plenary debate and vote in May.

Exchange of views with the French Presidency of the Council

MEPs will discuss the priorities of the French Presidency with Cédric O, French Minister of State for the Digital Transition and Electronic Communication (9.00-10.00).

This will be followed by a presentation of the study on ‘Identification and assessment of existing and draft EU legislation in the digital field’ (10.00-10.45).

Debate on compromise amendments

Rapporteur Axel Voss (EPP, DE) presented his draft report to the committee on the 9 November 2021. MEPs also debated amendments on January 13, 2022. On Thursday, the debate will focus on a set of compromise amendments negotiated between the political groups.

The draft report and amendments will be put to a vote in committee on the 22 March 2022, followed by a plenary debate and vote in May.

Background

The AIDA Committee started its work in September 2020. In its mandate, the Committee was tasked to explore the impact of AI on the EU economy and its different sectors, to analyse the AI approach of third countries, and to chart the road ahead. The committee held a number of hearings and debatesto feed into the report. The AIDA final report will be the main output of the committee.

EU Digital COVID Certificate to enter Parliament

As of 3 November, all people entering Parliament’s buildings have to present a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate, including journalists. The EU Digital COVID Certificate proves that a person is either fully vaccinated, has immunity after having recovered from COVID-19 or can show a recent negative PCR test result. Both digital and paper formats of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or of a recognised equivalent certificate will be accepted.

A proof of a negative result of a PCR test carried out within the last 72 48 hours in Belgium, Luxembourg or France will also be accepted. Please note that the existing precautionary measures, including the compulsory wearing of a medical face mask and temperature checks at entrances, remain in place. More information here.

A limited number of seats will be reserved for journalists in the meeting room, allotted on a “first-come, first-served” basis and subject to a full respect of the social distancing rules.
